The Thief
The thief paused with one foot on the balcony and smiled out at the view before her, the dark sky above and the bright streets lighting her way below. She savored the night breeze on her face and her smile only grew wider as the door burst open behind her and the shorter of the two detectives rushed out.
"Alright crazy, I've caught you now!" she grinned breathlessly, and held out her taser in front of her as she approached, cuffs in one hand.
"Well, I suppose you would think that at first glance." the thief nodded in acknowledgement, and then stepped up onto the balcony with both feet and a smile.
"What-" The detective went slack-jawed as the other woman turned to face the city, arms spread, coat flapping in the wood, and enjoyed the breeze for a moment more. Then she turned and winked.
"Good luck deciphering my note Miss Lily." And she jumped.
Lily scrambled for the balcony and watched in amazement as the thief fell one, two, three, four, five stories with a hand on her hat, and then raised one arm to shoot a whipping grappling line above her, and away she swung.
Lily shut her jaw with a snap and turned to run back downstairs, only to stop with a jerk. There was a note with a border of blue flowers tied to the railing. She had never seen it put there.
She took a moment to read it and then smiled, bright and wide. Away she dashed for the stairwell, grabbing at the walkie-talkie on her belt. "The thief is headed East towards Jailhouse Road, swinging from the buildings, like some kind of Spiderman. She still has the ring."
She pulled out her phone as she rounded a corner and started to text as she sprinted for the ground floor.

Chasing thief
Several streets to the South, the thief rested her head against a fan and toyed with the ring in her palm. It worked, she thought as she tried to catch her breath. A slier version of her earlier smile played around her lips as she traced the new grappling lines on her wrists with a finger. It was going to be fun to play with these. The police were probably going crazy now.
Speaking of...
As the sirens came nearer she rose to her feet. A grin spread across her face and she adjusted her hat, then sprinted for the edge.
